I tried selling once, it was fun, really fun, and I recommend any car guy that has the means to try it.

I'm actively trying to leave car sales. Mainly because the market isn't like it used to be (resources like TrueCar have killed profits) and you're never truly off the clock.

A job as a car salesman sounds cool, as long as you sell cars you really like. For example: M BMWs, Muscle Cars, Porsches, etc.

Has TrueCar changed the lowest prices, or everyone now pays the lowest price?

Yes, but it has nothing to do with car sales. Always be reconsidering your life.

Me and a couple detailers seemed to get a guy sold on a WRX/STI over a 370Z a few months ago, it felt really nice.

I spent a lot of time and money in August driving around to "interviews" at various dealerships trying to get into the business. The money is enticing, but somewhere along the way I figured out it wasn't the career for me.

You can't look at it that way. My first gig was at a Toyota store around 2000. The only car on the lot I liked was a Camry SE with a 4 banger and 5 speed.

It really wasn't "selling" so much though. 3 out of 4 people that walked through the door were already sold.

The Chevy store I went to was a totally different story.

My dad just got a job as a salesman at a Toyota dealership. He hates Toyotas, but they sell 250 cars a month. Gotta follow the money. He said "When I look at the lot I don't see Prius, Camry, Corolla - I see dollar signs with my name on them."

He has yet to confirm if "Obama 2012" stickers are a dealer-installed option for the Prius.

TrueCar has introduce more "loser" deals into the mix (ones below cost). Its because most dealerships game TrueCar by not including things like freight, or making up their lower price by tacking on post-finance fees. The problem is that people will take the price certificate with the falsely low pricing to a reputable dealer and attempt to get us to meet or beat it. The thing being that we don't have the fees or break up car and freight prices. Basically its a race to the bottom. And honest dealerships lose. Because if they do go to the other dealership they're actually likely to still buy even through the BS.

As a non-employee, I made a sale for the Cadillac dealership near me, which happens to be one of the largest in the country. I was instructed to put in an application, so I did. Then they told me they were full up on sales staff.

Dafuq, man?
